in the fall, after the hummingbirds have headed to warmer climes, we have many visitors at our feeders...one of our favorites are the woodpeckers...

          

      

 

this female (the males have a red scarf) enjoys the sunflower seed we harvested in the summer...she takes a peek, and grabs one...

since she can't work the seed in her beak like others, she pecks at it in a tree trunk till she extracts the nut...
